Lakertown

SWAN and John Ball Park – GVSU’s Robert C. Pew Grand Rapids Campus is in the heart of Lakertown.  The Rapids’ 50 Bus Route, which travels between the Pew Campus and the Allendale Campus, runs almost directly down the middle of Lakertown providing excellent public transportation for GVSU students.  The South West Area Neighborhood (SWAN) makes up the east portion of Lakertown, and John Ball Park Neighborhood to the west.  These neighborhood are made up of many locally owned shops and stores full of life and character. Bitter End Coffee House is conveniently located only blocks from the Pew Campus and is open 24 hours for those late study nights.  Each year, on the first weekend in October, residents pack the local Polish Halls for Pulaski Days to celebrate General Casimir Pulaski, an American Revolutionary War Hero.  Lakertown also proudly holds John Ball Zoo, home to over 2000 individual animals, and scenic views.  Quaint little bars like Putt-Putt’s Bar and Joeys Lounge dot the neighborhood and provide an excellent place to take a load off.
